Bowen Therapy Bodywork

Bowen Therapy, Bowen Technique, Bodywork

Bowen Therapy Bodywork or The Bowen Technique is a hands-on method that acts on the soft tissue (fascia) of the body.  It can be very light in pressure and is applied to specific points on the body in order to achieve a range of different responses.

There are many valuable forms of Bodywork and we’ve explored the mechanisms by which Bowen Therapy Bodywork creates such a healing response in further posts, case studies and articles.  So initially let’s look at why the Health Restoration Program has this type of therapy at the forefront of creating balance, alignment, repair and vitality in the body.

This-for-that!

Again, to emphasise, I’m really encouraging that we move away from a this-for-that approach.  By this I mean that conventionally a ‘muscle or joint’ ache, pain or symptom will classically be treated with a manual therapy hands-on bodywork and whilst this is clearly a relevant and valuable step – there is so much more to bodywork than this linear and narrow application.

The potential for manual therapy like Bowen Therapy bodywork to actually affect and improve the function of many systems, tissues, organs, glands and cells in the body, is immense!  In fact it can be part of an approach to restore function of the digestive, detoxification, immune, autonomic nervous and hormonal systems too.

Have you integrated a bodywork therapy into your approach to solving your health challenge?

Working in this way at the clinic in Newcastle upon Tyne we’ve seen results where bodywork sessions have released restricted ranges of movement post surgery of 5 years previous, improved acid reflux, released congested sinuses, helped balance hormones, improve sleep, restore peripheral vision, alleviate headaches and much more!

Integrating Bowen Therapy Bodywork

When we combine (integrate) this method strategically alongside Functional Medicine, Nutrition and Movement, the outcomes can be inspiring. Pulling together the different modalities strategically and coherently helps spiral towards your goals, not away.

Take a look at some of the Functional Health Clinic clients who used this modality to achieve their health goals.

Bowen Therapy Bodywork (The Bowen Technique) is a hands-on method that acts on the soft tissue of the body. This includes the muscles, fascia and connective tissues.

Through my Bowen Therapist training over the last 15 years, I have observed many different teachings, applications and interpretations of the work. My initial training was actually very prescriptive and lacked assessment.

It was a great foundation to then learn and explore more effective ways of applying this bodywork to my clients’ individual needs and goals.

Through further training – Our Assessment is now quick, targeted and enables us to track and confirm the changes to the body during the Bowen Therapy bodywork session.

We love working in this way. The assessment is a check in with the body as to where the driver of dysfunction could be and whether the applied bodywork has actually targeted and resolved it successfully. It keeps the practitioner informed.  If we think we know where the driver of pain, postural distortion, asymmetry etc is – and we don’t resolve it – the assessment will confirm that there’s more work to be done.

When we resolve it, the assessment will confirm the success. The lesson is to not chase the pain and that’s what we adhere to with the work we do on the Health Restoration Program.
