Disrupted Gait Pattern

Disrupted Gait Pattern
This was an interesting one! Our client had been experiencing something in their walking (gait) pattern for quite a long time.

Their left leg would noticeably scuff, catch or trip on the ground quite often.
It hadn’t caused any major issues or injuries, but at best it was an annoyance.
Here’s a brief summary of what we did, that accompanies the image here.

– Firstly, we knew from their history that there had been two relatively recent motorcycle accidents that impacted the right knee and left hip in particular.

– Then we performed an assessment that identified a short right leg (12mm) in the prone position (face down). So, we already had an idea of the alignment asymmetries that could be impacting their movement patterns.

– This is unlikely to be an actual short leg, but we needed to confirm this.

– Next we performed further assessments to determine what the driver of the short right leg could be. We found that there were two layers. The right side Piriformis (muscle in the buttock) and the alignment of the Sacrum.

– Once we corrected these two areas we immediately resolved the leg length discrepancy. The structural integrity of the body had been progressed!

What our client found was that within a few days/week they were walking with more balance and no longer scuffed or caught their left leg when walking.

An essential pattern to resolve to avoid future challenges!

If you would like to find out the potential role of bodywork / structural alignment work for your health /pain/movement goals then let us know.
