Calprotectin and Secretory IgA Test
What could be the significance of these markers coming back on your Gut Health Test?

High Secretory IgA (sIgA)
High Calprotectin

When your tests come back it is essential to look for patterns and how the pieces of the puzzle fit into the bigger picture.

Avoid solely analysing markers or test reports as stand-alone results.

You’ll simply guarantee that you miss something valuable!

So why is this particular combination of markers useful?

First, some quick definitions:

In simple terms ‘sIgA‘ is a marker of the activity of the immune system first line of defence in the gut. If it is high it suggests that the immune system is defending against something that is in the gut. It doesn’t agree on it being there and is trying to neutralise and eradicate it.

Could be pathogen, chemical, toxin, allergen, food, etc. And further markers, tests, screening, questions, investigation will help you clarify what it could be.

The ‘Calprotectin‘ is a marker of inflammation occurring in the upper gastro-intestinal tract. Ideally this is as low as possible.

So – if both are high it suggests that the thing (parasite, food, toxin, allergen etc) that the immune system is wanting to zap – is the very same thing that is causing inflammation.

So if you identify the immune stressor you have a good chance of reducing the inflammation.

And if you reduce the inflammation in the gut/body you can be impacting the function, wellbeing, vitality, health etc of the other systems, tissues, organs and glands in the body!

Of course, there are usually more factors to consider than just this pattern. But this is a great start.

The more you identify and embrace, the less guessing you do and the more control you’ll be taking.
